New Opening days

The Russell Museum, Te Whare Taonga o Kororāreka is presently open 7-days a week. Hours are 10.00 – 4.00 pm (last admissions 3.30). School groups and visiting groups can be accommodated on request, please contact us.

If you haven’t visited before, then now’s your chance to support a great local Museum and discover the fascinating nationally significant history of the Bay of Islands. From early Māori arrivals, European discoveries with our large scale replica of Captain Cook’s HM Bark Endeavour, to the fascinating history of Russell Kororāreka. A new interactive digital display tells the stories of first encounters between Cook’s crew and local Māori as well as the ecological story of the Bay’s marine environment.
